It All Adds Up is the University of Minnesota's conservation campaign. Designed to enlist the campus community's help in conserving resources, It All Adds Up asks students, faculty and staff to commit to sustainable behaviors, like energy conservation and waste reduction, while on campus.
The Facilities Management department launched It All Adds Up in 2009 by setting a five percent energy reduction goal for fiscal year 2010. That goal was reached three months early at the end of March 2010. An additional five percent was eliminated by June 2011, bringing the total amount saved in the program's first two years to more than $4.6 million annually, with 50,000 fewer tons of CO2 released into the atmosphere.
The University has set a new goal to reduce future annual energy costs by an additional $2 million in fiscal year 2012, as well as a goal to increase recycling by five percent by the end of 2012.
Additionally, It All Adds Up has collected more than 10,000 energy conservation pledges from students, faculty and staff. The energy conservation pledge is designed to increase awareness about how each person at the U can help save energy by asking them to commit to energy saving behaviors, like turning off the lights when leaving a room or using the stairs instead of an elevator.
