From Foundational Science to Sustainable Practice

The 2008 Growing the Bioeconomy Conference will focus on strategies to achieve the new federal cellulosic biofuels mandate and advance the Midwestern Governors Association energy and climate change platform. The conference will feature:
- Cutting edge research on cellulosic feedstocks production and processing technologies; biomass harvest, storage, and transportation systems; biofuels and climate change; and human, social, economic, and policy dimensions of the bioeconomy; biofuels;
- Tours to learn about new biomass crops and cropping systems research at the Iowa State University New Century Farm;
- Demonstrations of biomass harvest equipment prototypes at the Iowa State University New Century Farm.
Following the conference will be the Corn and Climate: Post-Conference Workshop on the Climate of the Midwest. This post-conference workshop will focus in-depth attention on the interactions between crops and climate, climate change, climate variability, and future impacts on agriculture in the Midwest. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is co-sponsoring this special extension of the Growing the Bioeconomy Conference to assess recent climate trends in the Midwest, as well as seasonal and long-term climate assessments.

Call for Papers:
If you would like to present a paper at the conference, please submit a title and half-page abstract to John Holbrook by June 30. The emphasis of the paper should be on some aspect of ammonia as a fuel, i.e., NH3 production, storage, distribution, safety, or end uses. The presentations will be 25 minutes in length with 5 minutes Q&A.
