Monsanto Company
Michael Doane is director of agricultural economics and sustainability for the Monsanto Company and has been involved in a variety of industry relations and sales management roles for the company for 10 years. In his current role, he is engaged with the agriculture and food value chain on issues related to the economic and environmental sustainability of agricultural systems. Prior to his work for Monsanto, Doane served as executive director of the Kansas Association of Wheat Growers, a policy organization representing the interests of wheat farmers. There, he led the organization’s state and national-level policy development, lobbying and public relations initiatives. |

Nathanael Greene - Director of Renewable Energy Policy
Natural Resources Defense Council
As director of renewable energy policy for the Natural Resources Defense Council, Nathanael Greene coordinates efforts in renewable energy, including fuels and power, and policies that will advance these technologies. In recent years, he has spent the bulk of his time focusing on biofuels, biopower, wind, solar and geothermal. In partnership with colleagues from the NRDC’s land, water, ocean and climate programs, he works to understand the capabilities, challenges and standards surrounding current renewable energy technologies. |

Kevin Stringer - Director General, Petroleum Resources
Natural Resources Canada
Kevin Stringer has served as director general of petroleum resources with Natural Resources Canada since 2008. He joined the Canadian government in 2001 and has held a number of senior positions. During his career with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, he first served as director of aboriginal programs, then director general of aboriginal affairs and, finally, director general of fisheries resource management. Before joining the federal government, Stringer spent several years working with aboriginal groups for the province of Alberta.

Rick Tolman - Chief Executive Officer

Rick Tolman serves as chief executive officer of the National Corn Growers Association, a producer‑directed trade association. Prior to his current role, he was the executive director for the U.S. Grains Council, a nonprofit organization that promotes the use of U.S. barley, corn and sorghum, and related products worldwide. In addition, he has served as a marketing planning manager for the Advanced Harvesting Systems Group at International Harvester Company, a market research analyst for the Gehl Company, and a graduate research assistant at Purdue University. |

Jonathan Foley - Director
Institute on the Environment (moderator)
Jonathan Foley is the director of the Institute on the Environment at the University of the Minnesota, where he is a professor and McKnight Presidential Chair in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior. He also leads the IonE’s Global Landscapes Initiative. Foley’s work focuses on complex global environmental systems and their interactions with human societies. He and his students have contributed to our understanding of large-scale ecosystem processes, global patterns of land use, the behavior of the planet’s climate and water cycles, and the sustainability of our biosphere. |
