About the Biofuels & Bioproducts Innovative Laboratory

An initiative sponsored by IREE and managed by the BioTechnology Institute

The Biofuels & Bioproducts Innovative Laboratory (BIL) was established to be a resource for the University of Minnesota and for industry in research on biomass conversion and analysis. The Facility, funded by a grant from the Initiative for renewable energy and the environment (IREE) and managed by the Biotechnology Institute (BTI), has equipment distributed between three laboratories on the St. Paul Campus of the University of Minnesota. The BIL assists researchers by providing access to thermal-chemical reaction equipment on both small and large scale as well as analytical equipment for products. The facilities are staffed to assist users in learning to operate the equipment as well as to assist in method development.

BioTechnology Institute

There has been dramatic change in biotechnology over the past 20 years and the BTI has evolved in step with the science. This development continues to be guided by three core values: provide professional training, conduct innovative and relevant research, and serve as a resource for industry.
