Determining details about hiring a student can be confusing, especially if you are hiring the student as a University employee. If you need additional assistance, contact the HUP.

Minimal Expertise Required From the Student

- If the position you are filling has no special skills needed, or the student can learn on the job, you should note that in the job description.

- Posting the position on GoldPASS (the University's Monster.com-like job search and post engine) without specifying a certain major or program requirement will be sent out to a large number of students.

Administrative Skills or Professional Skills

- If the position you are filling requires the student to have certain administrative skills (such as proficiency in a certain software) or professional skills (such as research and analysis skills or graphic design skills), be sure to detail those requirements in the job description.

- Posting the job on GoldPASS (the University's Monster.com-like job search and post engine) and specifying certain majors or programs will attract specific groups of students. You may also choose to work through a specific program's career services office or coordinator. The HUP Liaison, Kathie Doty (612-625-4383), may also be helpful in connecting you with specific students
