COMMITTEE ON ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL RIGHTS

CONCLUDING OBSERVATIONS OF THE COMMITTEE ON ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL RIGHTS ON REPORTS SUBMITTED BY STATES PARTIES UNDER ARTICLES 16 AND 17 OF THE COVENANT

Note by the Secretary-General

1. At its seventh session (23 November-11 December 1992), the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights decided that it would adopt, at the end of its consideration of each State party's report, concluding observations reflecting the main points of discussion and indicating issues that would require a specific follow-up. These concluding observations would also serve as a starting-point for the periodic reports to be submitted by States parties at a later stage.

2. The concluding observations provide a general evaluation of a State party's report and of the dialogue with the delegation and make note of positive developments that may have occurred during the period under review, factors and difficulties affecting the implementation of the Covenant, and of specific issues of concern relating to the application of the provisions of the Covenant. They include suggestions and recommendations to the State party concerned.

3. Concluding observations of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights on reports submitted by individual States parties under articles 16 and 17 of the Covenant will be issued in separate documents.
