The Protection of Human Rights (Amendment) Act, 2006

This Act seeks to enhance the effectiveness of the Commissions, provides interalia for surprise visits by the NHRC to jails or other institutions under the control of State Governments, extends the definition of “International Covenants” to cover “such other Covenant or Convention adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations as the Central Government may, by notification, specify” etc.
