Population, People's Republic of China

Population

As of 2013, the People’s Republic of China had a total population of 1.3 billion, including Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. It is the most populous country in the world and the largest country in Asia. There are more than 90 cities within China, which have become known their rapid development. Nearly half of China’s current population lives in urban areas. That number is reportedly increasing as China’s economic output continues to soar.

Under the current leadership of the Communist Party, China is still operating under an authoritarian regime. The political geography of the country is strongly impacted by its shared borders with fourteen countries, including disputed territories by India and Tibet.
