Legal Practitioners (Designated Legal Qualifications) Notice, 2007

THE Council for Legal Education, in terms of section 6(1) of the Legal Practitioners (Council for Legal Education) Rules, 1992, hereby makes the following notice:‑

1.  This notice may be cited as the Legal Practitioners (Designated Legal Qualifications) Notice, 2007.

2.  The degrees, diplomas and certificates specified in the Schedule are declared to be designated legal qualifications for the purposes of  Legal Practitioners (Council for Legal Education) Rules, 1992.

 

Schedule

DESIGNATED LEGAL QUALIFICATIONS

1.       The following degrees of the University of Zimbabwe–

                      (a)         the LL.B. (Hons) degree;

                      (b)        the B.L. degree;

                      (c)         the LL.B. degree.

2.       The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree of the Midlands State University.

3.       The LL.B. degree of the University of Zambia.

4.       The LL.B. degree of a University established by law in Botswana.

5.       The LL.B. degree of a University established by law in Lesotho.

6.       The LL.B. degree of a University established by law in Swaziland.

7.      The LL.B., B. Iuris or B. Proc degree of a University established by law in the Republic of South Africa.

8.      The LL.B. degree of a University or other institution of higher education established by law in the United Kingdom.

9.      Any degree, diploma or other certificate awarded by any institution of higher education or professional body in the United Kingdom which entitles the holder to practise as a barrister or solicitor in the United Kingdom.

3.  The Legal Practitioners (Designated Legal Qualifications) Notice, 1992, published in Statutory Instrument  444 of 1992, is repealed.
