PART II, SECTION 3 – PERSPECTIVES OF SPECIFIC GROUPS

USING MODULE 7 IN TRAINING PROGRAM

REFUGEES AND ESC RIGHTS

GO TO SECTION I - MODULE 7

The purpose of Module 7 is to summarize international, regional and domestic standards related to the ESC rights of refugees.

This module should help trainees understand/clarify for themselves:

  • the definition of a refugee;
  • international and domestic legal standards protecting the ESC rights of refugees; and
  • the problem of forced migration.

Suggested Methods

¨      Lecture: For a group that is not working on refugee issues, a lecture presentation of the module could be made.

¨      Field visit plus lecture: For a group working on refugee issues, a more in-depth presentation should be made. Where possible, participants could undertake a field visit to a refugee camp for ascertaining some of the economic, social and cultural entitlements of refugees and whether they are being met.  Following a visit, participants should share what they learned from the field visit.  This should be followed by a lecture presentation on refugees and ESC rights.
