Amnesty International Urgent Action Appeals


Amnesty International's Urgent Action program is designed to provide a quick response to situations of urgency involving prisoners, detainees and other victims or potential victims of human rights abuses who may be in life-threatening situations. There are approximately 80,000 UA participants in 87 countries; 12,000 in the United States.

The monthly Children's Edition Urgent Action (see page 5) is written in language children can understand. The original version of the appeal (see pages 6-7) is provided to give further information to adults or older students who may be working with these children. Teachers and parents receive a 48-page "how-to" guide filled with details and suggestions about letter writing, classroom activities, and human rights education resources.
