Youth Rights Forum


 

Two years running, a group of governmental organizations including Pueblito, YLIFT (Young Leaders involved in Fighting for Tomorrow), the Canadian Coalition on the Rights of the Child, the Youth Action Network and Amnesty International have banded together to hold the Youth Rights Forum for Ontario youth aged 12-25.

About the forum:

Participants spend a weekend in the Toronto area discussing the Convention on the Rights of the Child, picking up some activist skills, and mapping out action strategies to carry out over the next year. This isn't just a forum for youth, it's also an event organized almost exclusively by young leaders and participants are invited to try their hand at designing and running some of the sessions. While understanding human rights and responsibilities is the starting point, the emphasis is on education for action. The result is a challenging mix of everything from how to make sure bureaucracy doesn't get in the way of youth activism to an examination of issues yet to be covered by international law including sexual orientation and many environmental issues.
