Human Rights Educators' Alert

Publication for Teachers and Families are being approached this Fall and Winter to request cost-free placement of ads like the one on page 6 promoting Amnesty International USA's Children's Edition Urgent Action letter-writing program. We can use your help to further publicize the CE/UA. If you receive a local education newsletter, or national or regional publication, call or write the editor asking that the "Incite Hope" advertisement be included in the publication as a Public Service Announcement. You may direct the editor to the Urgent Action Office for further information, but an initial request for placement coming from a reader or subscriber will be more effective than a pitch from the Urgent Action Program of AIUSA.

The monthly Children's Edition Urgent Action offers teachers and parents a chance to introduce children to letter-writing as an empowering activist tool. Children are provided with information about youngsters like themselves, who are experiencing human rights violations. These Urgent Actions are written in language children can understand. Teachers and parents receive a 48-page 'how-to" guide filled with details and suggestions about letter-writing, classroom activities, und human rights education resources.

The Children's Edition UAs provide unique hands-on human rights education opportunities. Call 1-800-AMNESTY or write the Urgent Action Office directly tor your starter packet at: CE/UA, Urgent Action Office, POB 1270, Nederland, CO 80466- 1270.

The Children's Edition UA on page 5 can be used until December 15, 1996. If you would like a copy of the complete adult version, please contact the Urgent Action office at 303-440-0913 (voice), 303-258-7881 (fax), or by electronic mail <sharrison @ igc. apc.org>.
