Junior Professional Officer Programme

The programme is open to nationals of donor countries and to nationals of developing countries. Applicants should complete a personal history form and submit it to the relevant parties, as follows:

Nationals of donor countries should apply directly to the authorities in their country (except nationals of Canada and The Netherlands). The list of donor countries and their contact details are found below. Canadian nationals should apply to UNFPA directly by submitting a completed personal history form by email to canada-jpo@unfpa.org. Dutch nationals should apply to UNFPA directly by submitting a completed personal history form by email to dutch-jpo@unfpa.org. Nationals of developing countries should apply directly to UNFPA by submitting a completed personal history form to JPO@unfpa.org. Candidates for the internship programme are selected on a competitive basis. The following qualifications are required for consideration:

Expressed interest in the field of development; Written and spoken proficiency in English; fluency in French, Spanish or Arabic would be an asset; Ability to adapt to new environments and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds. Applicants interested in participating in UNFPA's Internship Programme must submit a United Nations Personal History Form (P-11) and an Application Form along with a brief statement describing your interests and reasons for wishing to participate in the Programme. Applications may be submitted by e-mail to internship@unfpa.org.

 

What are the basic requirements for prospective applicants? 

General: For employment with UNFPA, an advanced degree in a study pertinent to UNFPA's programme, for example, demography, public health or population studies, and some experience in a developing country, preferably with a development organization similar to UNFPA are pre-requisites. The applicant should also have the ability to take up assignments in UNFPA field duty stations as part of career development with UNFPA. Fluency in English is required; speaking and reading ability in one other United Nations Language, preferably French or Spanish is desirable. Please note that UNFPA will only be able to respond to those applicants in whom UNFPA has a further interest.

Junior Professsional Officer Programme

Candidates for the Junior Professional Officer Programme are selected on a highly competitive basis. The following qualifications are required for consideration:

Master level degree in a social science field such as demography, sociology, economics or public health; Written and spoken proficiency in at least two of UNFPA's three working languages: English, and either French or Spanish; Fluency in Arabic or Portuguese is an asset; Relevant work experience; Personal qualities such as leadership, initiative, adaptability, and sound judgment; Ability to work under pressure; Ability to adapt to new environments, and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds. All applicants should be no older than 32 years.
