• 1. What happened to the HEMATOGRAPHY PLUS CD-ROM?

  We stopped selling HEMATOGRAPHY PLUS in February 2007 (when we ran out of CD-ROMs for the second time). We decided not to press any more CDs because the program doesn't run on the new Macs with Intel processors, and will only run on many Windows machines after some rather convoluted memory adjustments (see questions 2 and 3 below). The cost of reprogramming HEMATOGRAPHY PLUS to make it compatible with current operating systems was prohibitive.

• 2. I get the message "This program requires at least 3MB of free virtual memory to run." when I try to run HEMATOGRAPHY PLUS with Windows 2000 or Windows XP and I am unable to use the software. What should I do?
  

  First, right click on the HEMATOGRAPHY PLUS.exe icon and choose properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode". The default option of Window 95 is probably the best choice in the dropdown box below. Now try the software. If that doesn't work, try some of the other settings on that tab.

  If you are still having problems, the following instructions may help. The caveat is that it's possible that these new settings will affect other software on your system but it's VERY unlikely and so far we have not heard of any problems. (If you have lots of RAM, you probably don't need lots of virtual memory.)

  The issue seems related to Windows XP and 2000 systems with massive amounts of installed RAM.

  These instructions are detailed for a version of XP. Windows 2000 might be slightly different.

  1. Right-click on the My Computer icon.
  2. Choose Properties. The System Properties window opens.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Find the Performance group box.
  5. Click the Settings button. The Performance Options window opens.
  6. Click the Advanced tab.
  7. The amount of Virtual Memory you are using is displayed near the bottom of the window.
  8. Click the Change button. The Virtual Memory window opens, which lists each drive on the computer and how much Virtual Memory you have on each drive.
  9. Try initial settings of Initial: 400 and Maximum: 768.
  10. Click Set.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Close the windows.
  13. Try HEMATOGRAPHY PLUS again.
  14. If it still doesn't work, try different settings for "Initial" and "Maximum."


• 3. I get the message "Unable to copy the driver file C:\WINDOWS\xobglu16.dll to your Windows directory." when I try to run HEMATOGRAPHY PLUS with Windows 2000 or Windows XP and I am unable to use the software. What should I do?

  You'll need to log into the computer as a local administrator. Start HEMATOGRAPHY PLUS as a "normal" user. You'll have to do a search for the xobglu16.dll and probably the xobglu32.dll file. You'll only be able to see these files if the program is running. These files are usually deleted when the program quits. Right-click on these files and tick the box to make them "read-only."

  Please note that we have not been able to test this.
