Q: Who can vote?
A: Minnesota voters must be
- 18 years of age or older
- U.S. citizen
- Minnesota resident for at least 20 days prior to Election
Day
- Not convicted of a felony or treason without having civil
rights restored
- Not under court-ordered guardianship of a person and
having not retained the right to vote
- Have not been found by a court to be legally incompetent
to vote
Q: Where do I vote if I am not from this area?
A: College students in Minnesota have the option of voting in
their hometown (as long as you still have a permanent residence
there) or where they are attending school. You must choose one
place to vote. You cannot vote in both locations.
Q: What
if I want to vote in a local election at home and am not from the
area where I attend school?
A: As long as you maintain permanent
residence at home (likely the address where your parents live),
you can vote by absentee ballot. To obtain an absentee ballot,
you should contact your city clerk or county auditor. For more
information on absentee voting, visit the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State or
check with your state's secretary of state.

do I get an absentee ballot?
A: To request an absentee ballot, you
should contact your city clerk or county auditor. To find your
county auditor go to the
Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State.
Q: Where
do I go to vote?
A: You will vote at a specified polling
place in your neighborhood. You can find where your polling location
by using the Polling
Place Finder or by
contacting your county auditor.
Q: How
do I register to vote?
A: You must fill out a voter registration
card and return it in person or by mail to the secretary of state
or your county auditor. You can also register when renewing your
driver's license, at events around campus this fall and at a number
of other locations. You can download a voter

Q: If
I am not registered before Election Day, can I still vote?
A: Yes.
Minnesota has same-day voter registration. To register on Election
Day, you must bring to your polling place one of the following:
- A valid Minnesota drivers license or ID card with your
current address
- A utility bill due within 30 days of Election Day with
your name and current address along with a Minnesota driver's license,
Minnesota ID card, military ID card, student ID card, or passport
- A registered voter from your precinct to vouch for your
address
Students may also bring,
- Student photo ID, registration or fee statement with
your current address
- Student photo ID if you are on a student housing list
on file at the polling place

A: Elections this year will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7.
