Five Tips for Telling Your U Story1. Make it personal.Your story will always make a stronger impression when it comes from your heart. 2. Keep things simple.A great story gets even better if it's jargon-free. Your audience will feel more included and clued in to your topic. 3. Be concise. You might have less than a minute to make your point, so practice saying what you want to say and how to say it cleanly. 4. Be positive.Even if you are talking about something serious and sometimes difficult, keeping the talk positive will help to show your legislator how he or she can make things better. 5. Tie your U story to your legislative request. If the U opened career doors for you, ask your legislator to keep those doors open for today's students. If the U discovered something that changed your life, ask your legislator to support new research initiatives.
