Legislative Town Hall Sessions
January - May 2009

Looking for a great way to share your U enthusiasm with legislators and neighbors? Throughout the legislative session, legislators hold local meetings to hear from constituents. Visit our district meetings page for the latest updates on meetings near you.

Support the U Day

Over 300 U students and supporters filled the capitol rotunda on February 25th to meet with their legislators, write letters of support for the U, and hear from an inspiring host of student speakers and guests, including president Bob Bruininks, Regents Chair Patricia Simmons, and Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak.

Photos and video from the event are now posted on the Support the U Day Facebook page.

Legislative Briefing

The 2009 Legislative Briefing was an unprecedented success, thanks to the 370 volunteer advocates who attended this year’s event on Jan. 28. At least 52 state senators and 72 state representatives received hand-written letters U supporters wrote about the value of the U in their lives and communities.

Thanks to having guests post their U legislative questions prior to the event, we were able to answer every single question online. Over 30 questions were submitted on a wide range of academic, research, strategic and financial topics.

Event photos are now available via Facebook (no account required) -- videos and testimonials will be posted soon.

The University of Minnesota Alumni Association Speakers Tour has traveled to almost 50 communities to talk about how the U of M is an economic, education and innovation engine. U of M Deans, faculty members and administrators accompany the Alumni Association, discussing their cutting-edge research and the U's involvement with society's most pressing issues.

Learn more about how the U belongs to all Minnesotans, and when the tour is coming to your community.
