FAQ: "What advocacy goals has the U pursued in recent years?"
The past few years have seen highly active ones at the Legislature for the University community. Major outcomes include:
2008 session
2007 session
- Creation of a program to reduce tuition by 2.5 percent for students whose families earn less than $150,000 per year
- $25 million in one-time funding plus $8 million per year (starting in 2010) for the Minnesota Partnership for
Biotechnology and Medical Genomics, a joint research venture between the U of M and the Mayo Clinic.
- Nearly 1,500 Legislative Network emails sent to state elected officials.
2006 session
- Expansion of the Carlson School of Management in Minneapolis to include a building for undergraduate studies, Hanson Hall.
- Creation of the Labovitz School of Business and Economics in Duluth
- Approval of the TCF Bank Stadium project, to be completed in September 2009.
- Over 1,250 Legislative Network emails sent to state elected officials, plus another 9,400 emails supporting the U's stadium drive.
