Limiting the Search Results Returned by Your Front End
There are cases in which you may want to restrict the scope of searches performed on your front end. For example:
- You want to suppress a document or group of documents immediately from the search results on your front end.
- You do not want your front end to be used for searching over other organizations' collections.
- You want to return results for only certain document types.
If you need a sensitive document removed from the University-wide search index, so that it cannot be found through any front end, then please notify the support team. Note that this will not remove the document from other search engines on the Internet.
By setting up filters for your front end, you can limit search results by language, file type, DNS domain, server, server directory, and META tag values. You can use the remove URLs feature to suppress specific URL patterns from the search results.
There is no simple way to limit the searches on front end to a specific set of collections. To accomplish this, you would need to manually synchronize the domain/directory filters in your front end with the lists of URLs in your collections.
