It's that time again...

Spring Semester Registration information

TC: CLASS SCHEDULE HAS LOTS OF GOOD INFORMATION

The Spring Class Schedule will be delivered to college offices late this week and will be available at the bookstores for students next Monday, November 8.

The Class Schedule explains and details many of the deadlines and processes that caused confusion during Fall registration (e.g., seven-week-terms, cancel/add processes, late enrollment fees), so give it a good read. Note that Independent and Distance Learning (IDL) classes are once again in separate section of the Class Schedule.

ALL CAMPUSES: WEB REGISTRATION PERFORMANCE IMPROVED

Dozens of "fixes" have made Web registration more reliable and stable. Among the changes: Much faster loading of Enrollment Summary; Class Schedule displays multiple reserve capacity (e.g., non-majors, UC students); Critical Processing Error page gives students phone numbers to call and report problems; classes set up in PeopleSoft as "Tentative" will show as "Tentative" in the Class Schedule, and many others.

Many problems last Fall were caused by mistakes in the Course Set-up process by then inexperienced users. Setting up courses the second time through went immeasurably better and we expect registration to go much more smoothly simply because of this.

Capacity is now 400 simultaneous transactions, up from 200 during Fall registration; however capacity may be restrained if the system slows down to much.

The Web registration process will continue to be improved daily as fixes are made and the system stabilized.

LOOK FOR THESE PROBLEMS

ALL: The problem with adding/dropping/adding another section of the same class. The second drop is now allowed, but the second added section still displays on the enrollment summary.

TC: The Gopher Student Line is being upgraded to be Year 2000 compliant and as a result students will not be able to telephone the Gopher Line for queue or hold information. The information on the queue and holds will continue to be available at the Web OneStop, in the Class Schedule, and at Student Service Centers.

TC: Spring courses and Intersession courses are listed separately in the printed Class Schedule, but intermingled in the Web Class Schedule. This is going to cause confusion. The May Intercession 2000 Schedule of Classes, available at the bookstores on November 8, will have a more complete listing of Intercession courses, as well as important enrollment and tuition information.

ALL: INTERCESSION-RELATED INFORMATION

Students can register for spring semester and the intercession at the same time to receive financial aid for both terms. However, spring and intercession will be billed separately.

Registering for the Intercession separately is going to cause problems for students who are reimbursed tuition costs from their employers. Staff is investigating this.

TC: MAGIC NUMBERS

Magic #s will be delivered to colleges early next week. They will expire after the second week of class as they did in Fall.

WE'RE UPDATING THE STUDENT 2000 PROJECT AND ESP WEB SITES.

As mentioned before, the Spring Class Schedule contains detailed information on many of the processes, procedures, and deadlines that caused confusion during Fall registration. So, were updating the web sites with information new to Spring Semester. This announcement, as well as others that follow it, will be posted at both sites http://www.umn.edu/s2000 and http://www.umn.edu/enterprise.
