Q. Can a student have two registrations for the same course in the same
term? For example, can a student have HRIR 8990 Independent Study listed twice
in the same term (taking 4 credits with one professor and 2 credits with another
instructor for example) so that it shows separately on their transcript?
A. A student can have two registrations for the same course in the same term if the course has two different call numbers. A "topics" course would be a good example of this situation. Departmental staff can allow multiple enrollments when they complete the course set up process.
Q. I understand about enrollment dates for seven-week terms, but what about three-day classes, IDL students, or other special term classes?
A. Right now PeopleSoft can't handle special terms very well, although we expect it will in the future. So students registering for special term and IDL classes are automatically being assessed late fees. OTR will waive these late fees, but it means our staff has to go into PeopleSoft, identify the student with the late fee, and delete it. This process goes much faster if you provide us with a class list of the students with their IDs, and the reason you are requesting the waiver. Email to m-kosk@tc.umn.edu. Class lists are now easily available. See http://www1.umn.edu/enterprise/docs/ClassLists.html for instructions.
Q. How will you handle the Intersession bill? If students register for the Intersession in November, will the additional credits be eligible for the ½ price offer?
A. No, intersession courses are charged on their own and do not get counted for the spring half-price break. It has to do with the separate costs of offering these courses.
Q. TC only: I noticed there are different enrollment request forms this semester? What happened to the Course Enrollment Request Form we used to use?
A. Yes, the two 8 1/2 by 11 forms replaced the 1/2 sheet Course Enrollment Request Form this semester. Now there are two forms--the UC form, called a Credit Enrollment Request Form and the Day form, called the Enrollment Request Form. Next semester we will have only one form for both UC and Day called the Credit Enrollment Request Form. From Jude: Lost your communication survey in the blizzard of paper on your desk? I'll send you a new one! Just email jposeley@umn.edu.

Q. Is there a way to determine whether a disabled student is registered for my class? That way I can plan accommodations for that student well in advance.
A. The existing disability tracking flags from Legacy were not converted to PeopleSoft student groups because the information was self reported and not very accurate. In PeopleSoft, student group security does not allow privacy for the student's disability information, so we have not set the system up to record this information. (We may change this later when we can work through the security/privacy issues.)
In the Twin Cities, the Scheduling office in OTR waits until someone (usually Disability Services) requests disability accommodation for a student and then passes the information on as needed.
Q. Where can I find a list of training classes for student services?
A. At http://www1.umn.edu/esptrain/outline.htm
Q. Do students registering for 7-week courses need a magic number?
A. No, they do not need magic numbers, but they will have to go to a Student Service Center to register for the class (see next question).
Q. Can students who are registering for the first time ("initial registration") enroll for classes via the Web?
A. No, all students adding classes, either for an initial registration or as a cancel/add, need to go to the Student Services Centers to register. No one, no where, no how can add classes via the Web. They can drop classes via the Web however.
