Emergency Communication Center

Public Safety's Emergency Communication Center provides 911 dispatching for the Twin Cities campus; as well as system wide video survillance, card access monitoring, and alarm services for the University of Minnesota.

On March 24, 2011, University of Minnesota Public Safety consolidated UMPD's 911 Communication Center with DCS’s Central Monitoring Station into one 24/7 Department of Public Safety Emergency Communications Center (PSECC).

    Central Security's PSECC provides around the clock video surveillance and recording. Our state-of-the-art emergency communication center utilizes the latest video and audio equipment to provide you with the safest environment and most unobtrusive monitoring possible.


  • 911 Emergency Services
  • Dispatching

    Central Security now provides 911 and Security Monitor Program dispatching services. Whether you request service via a Code Blue Emergency Phone or a personal cell phone, our knowledgeable and experienced dispatchers will provide you 24/7 emergency support.


  • Alarm Monitoring
  • The Emergency Communication Center offers both Stentofon alarm monitoring in addition to a full service, central station intrusion alarm monitoring for U of M customers. Located throughout several parking facilities are red emergency push buttons called Stentofon alarms. These locations have a speaker that will connect you to a parking attendant at your location, or if they are unavailable, an employee within the Public Safety Emergency Communication Center. When an alarm is received, we also receive an image of the location to help assist in identifying emergencies.


  • Card Access System Monitoring
  • All areas of the Department of Central Security work together to ensure doors lock and unlock at appropriate times as well as contact appropriate personnel when prohibited activity, such as an unlawful entry, occurs.


CCTV/Card Access Monitoring Documentation Requests

Per University policy, information obtained through CCTV/Card Access is used exclusively for safety, security, and law enforcement purposes. Recorded data will be stored in a secure location with access by authorized staff only. Entities capable of requesting this data include the following:

  • University of Minnesota Police Department
  • Office of General Counsel
  • Human Resources Office
  • Department of Audits
