Susan Goodwin Gerberich B.S., M.S, Ph.D.

Brief Biographical Sketch

Dr. Gerberich is Professor in Environmental Health Sciences and Director of the Center for Violence Prevention and Control and the Regional Injury Prevention Research Center. She is also Director of the Occupational Injury Epidemiology and Control Program, a research and education training program within the Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety.

She has both a national and international reputation for her research expertise in the area of injury prevention and control, pertinent to both intentional and unintentional injuries. Her efforts include major population-based studies of agricultural trauma, among other occupational injury problems, a variety of unintentional injury problems, and work-related violence. From her research endeavors, which have also enabled many opportunities for graduate students, she has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, both at the national and international levels.

Dr. Gerberich has served on many committees and scientific review panels including: blue ribbon panels for the Centers for Disease Control injury control programs; and the National Occupational Injury Prevention and Control Expert Panel appointed by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health that completed a report for Congress on the magnitude of the problem and relevant recommendations. Most recently, she was appointed to the Blue Ribbon Panel: Methodological Challenges to the Study of Occupational Injuries, sponsored by Harvard University, Liberty Mutual Research Center for Safety and Health, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
