About the Conference
For the past few years, many of us have been preoccupied with course management systems (CMSs)—rolling out new products, migrating from one product to another, and looking at training and support issues for these tools. The 2006 Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) Learning Technology Group conference looks beyond CMSs toward a host of stand-alone tools (which may or may not be integrated into a CMS) that can support communication and collaboration, structure learning activities, or track and assess learning. The questions that we will address during the conference include:
- What do these new technologies offer?
- How does our role as instructional support staff members change when we attempt to offer a diverse suite of tools instead of pushing the one-CMS-fits-all solution?
- What challenges and opportunities lie ahead?
