Notice of Internet/E-mail Account Status for Graduating Students

The University offers continued e-mail account access and some other limited services for students who are not registered. If you register for a class, you may disregard this information. Registration for a class will update your account status within 24 hours.

E-mail

Your e-mail inbox will remain active for a minimum of three semesters after the last term in which you were registered. During this time, the University will use your e-mail address for official communications to you, so you should check your e-mail regularly or have it forwarded to an address which you actively monitor. You can set forwarding in your Internet Account Options at http://www.umn.edu/myaccount.

Your inbox MAY remain active for up to five years after your last registration. To keep it active after the initial three-semester period outlined above, you must access it at least once every 6 months. If your account lapses, you will have the option to pay to re-open it. Note that if you set forwarding it will remain in effect for two semesters even if you don't have an active inbox.

Internet ID

Your Internet ID (for example, "user1234") and password will remain active for five years. This gives you access to:

1. Your e-mail inbox -- as long as it remains active (see above).
2. Directory Tools -- for e-mail forwarding and other account options.
3. OneStop -- for registration, updating contact information, transcripts, etc.

If it has been more than three semesters since you last took a class, you are no longer enrolled in a degree program. You may register for classes online, but you must apply for readmission through the Registrar's office to resume pursuit of your degree.

If you are not registered for classes, your Internet ID will NOT give you access to the following:

  1. Library materials.
  2. Public labs.
  3. Wireless/VPN Access

Internet Account

All e-mail accounts as outlined above under "E-mail" are Basic (Client/Server) accounts. You may pay $10 per semester for up to two semesters after your last registration for an Interactive account, which allows access to e-mail and your home directory through an interactive shell (via SSH). Accounts may be upgraded and payments made at http://www.umn.edu/myaccount.
