E-mail Account Status for Alumni and Former Students

E-mail for degree recipients

If you have earned a degree from the University of Minnesota, you are eligible for a lifelong e-mail account.

  • Expiration: If you do not check your e-mail for one year, your e-mail account will expire and your e-mail files may be deleted for maintenance purposes.
  • Activation: To activate your e-mail account, contact 1-HELP. Please note that your old e-mail files may no longer be available.

E-mail for all other former students

If you have taken classes at the University but did not receive a degree, your e-mail account will remain active for two semesters after your last term of registration.

  • During this time, the University will use your e-mail address for official communications to you, so you should check your e-mail regularly.
  • After two semesters, your e-mail account will be deleted.
  • Your e-mail account will be re-activated if you register for classes, but your old e-mail files may no longer be available.

Registration

Your Internet ID and password alone do not give you access to all of the University’s online services. For example, you must be registered for classes in order to access:

  • Library materials
  • Public computer labs
  • Wireless/VPN access

Please contact One Stop Student Services with questions related to online registration.
