How to tell if you have the option to Leave a copy of Messages on the server

Windows E-mail Clients:
Netscape Messenger 6.x - Macintosh
Netscape Messenger does not give you the option of leaving mail on the server for a specified amount of time. If you would like to use this functionality, please consider another e-mail client such as Eudora. If you would like to leave no mail on the server, Netscape Messenger works fine.
1. If your mail window is not open already, under Tasks select Mail and Newsgroups.
2. In the mail window, under Edit select Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings.
3. On the left side select Server Settings.
4. In the Server Settings window, make sure that the Server Type is POP Mail Server. If it is IMAP, please see our IMAP user guides.
5. Uncheck Leave messages on server.
Netscape Messenger 4.x - Macintosh
Netscape Messenger does not give you the option of leaving mail on the server for a specified amount of time. If you would like to use this functionality, please consider another e-mail client such as Eudora. If you would like to leave no mail on the server, Netscape Messenger works fine.
1. Under the Edit menu, select Preferences.
2. In the left side of the Preferences window, select Mail Servers.
3. On the right side, select your e-mail account and click Edit.
4. Make sure the Server Type is set to POP. If it is set to IMAP, please see our IMAP user guides.
5. Select the tab labeled POP at the top of this window.
6. Uncheck Leave messages on server.

Eudora 5 - Macintosh
1. Under the Special menu, select Settings.
2. On the left side of the Settings window, select Checking Mail.
3. On the right side under Mail Management, uncheck Leave on server for __ days.
4. Or, you can check this and set a limited time. Fourteen days works well for many people. This is generally short enough to keep your Inbox from getting too large.

Outlook Express 5 - Macintosh
1. Under the Tools menu, select Accounts.
2. Double-click on your University of Minnesota e-mail account. Make sure it says POP next to the account name. If it says IMAP please see our IMAP user guides.
3. In the Edit Account window, select the tab labeled Options.
4. Uncheck Leave a copy of each message on the server.
5. Or, you can check this and set a limited time. Fourteen days works well for many people. This is generally short enough to keep your Inbox from getting too large.

Mail 2 - Macintosh OS X
1. Under the Mail menu, choose Preferences.
2. Select your University of Minnesota e-mail account and click Edit.
3. Select the tab labeled Advanced.
4. Check Remove copy from server after retrieving a message.
5. If you want to leave messages for a week, select After one week. Otherwise, leave this set to Right away.

Netscape Messenger 6.x - Windows
Netscape Messenger does not give you the option of leaving mail on the server for a specified amount of time. If you would like to use this functionality, please consider another e-mail client such as Eudora. If you would like to leave no mail on the server, Netscape Messenger works fine.
