Interactive Account Fees
The University of Minnesota provides an Internet ID and e-mail account to all eligible students, staff, and faculty. Initially, all accounts are basic client/server accounts. For a fee, you can upgrade your account to an interactive account.
Basic Client/Server Account
The basic client/server account provides an e-mail account, and 1 GB of file space on a University server. This file space can be used for IMAP mail folders, school files, and directories. In addition, 20 MB of space is available for personal Web pages. This type of account does not allow CGI scripts or access to Unix commands. In order to store files of any type, you must move the files to your space on the server using SFTP or SCP software. For information on transferring files, go to www.umn.edu/adcs/help/filetransfer.html.
Interactive Account
For a fee, you can upgrade your account to be an interactive account. This type of account provides an e-mail account, and up to 1 GB of file space. In addition, 100 MB of file space is available for personal Web pages, which may include CGI scripts. Interactive access using secure SSH software is available to access a Unix shell.
