In this guide:
1) Start Eudora. If pop-up windows appear, hit cancel until just the Eudora interface is present. Then click on "Tools" and "Options"

2) When the "Options" window appears, click once on the icon in the left-most window with the label "Getting Started" below it. Fill in the text fields as shown below:
Real Name: <the name you want to appear
on all e-mails you send>
Return Address: <your_internet_id>@umn.edu
Mail Server (Incoming): <your_internet_id>.email.umn.edu
Login Name: <your_internet_id>
SMTP Server (Outgoing): smtp.umn.edu
Allow Authentication: Checked

3) Again looking to the left-most window, click on the icon labeled "Checking Mail", in the text fields, enter the information as shown below:
Mail Server: <your_internet_id>.email.umn.edu
Login Name: <your_internet_id>
Check for mail every: 15 minutes
Secure Sockets when Receiving: Required, STARTTLS

4) Once again looking to the left-most window, click on the icon labeled "Incoming Mail". In the right-hand side of the window, adjust the settings as follows:
Server Configuration: circle next to IMAP
filled
IMAP Mailbox Location Prefix: ~/mail/

5) Once again looking at the left-most window, click on the icon labeled "Sending Mail". On the right-hand side, fill in the values as shown below:
Return address: YourInternetID@umn.edu
Domain to add to unqualified addresses: umn.edu
SMTP server: smtp.umn.edu
Secure Sockets when Sending: Required, STARTTLS

6) In the left-hand category list, click Advanced Network. In the field for Network Buffer Size, enter 8192.

7) Click OK and close out of Eudora.
8) Enter Outgoing Server Port Number. To do this, you will need to have port options in Eudora. If you do not already have these options, you will need to install the Esoteric settings plug-in in Eudora.
Check if You Have Port Options
- While in Eudora, from the menu bar, click Tools and click Options....
- In the left-hand category list, check for Ports. You may need to scroll down the list to see it. If you see Ports, go to to step 4. Otherwise, continue with 'Install Esoteric Plug-in'.
Install Esoteric Plug-in
- To install Esoteric settings, exit Eudora and go into the Eudora directory. The location on your hardrive is usually Program Files->Qualcomm->Eudora ( If you do not see the Eudora folder in this path, you can also search your harddrive for the folder).
- Open the sub directory extrastuff. Move the file Esoteric.epi out of this directory and move it into the Eudora directory ( The file Esoteric.epi may already be in the Eudora folder. In this case, continue to step 2 ).
- Start up Eudora, then click Tools in the menu bar, and click Options.... You will see additional settings screens in the left-hand category list. If you do not see the icon for Ports, you have not installed the Esoteric plug-in. For further assistance installing the plug-in visit Eudora or call (612) 301-HELP.
- Click the Ports in the left-hand category list. There are two possible values for SMTP Port(25): 587 or 25.
25 is the default value, but 587 is required. - To enter the port number, enter 587 for SMTP Port(25):, and Click OK.
9) Click "OK" and Eudora will attempt to connect to the e-mail server you had just specified. Enter your Internet Password and hit enter or click "OK" (if you put a checkmark next to "Save Password" back in step "3)" Eudora will save the password for future use at this point). If the password is correct, Eudora will connect to the mail server and retrieve the information on your mail folders stored there, which will be displayed on the left-hand size of the window under "<Dominant>"

1) Go to "Tools" and click on "Directory Services"

2) In the "Directory Services" window, find the button labeled "New Database" and click it once.
3) In the Modify Database window, click the "Network" tab and enter the info as listed below:
Type the name by which you would like to refer to this
server.: ldap.umn.edu
Host Name: ldap.umn.edu
Port: 389

4) Click on the "Search Options Tab" and change the settings as follows:
Search Base: o=University of Minnesota, c=US

5) Click "OK" which returns you to the Directory Services window. In the lower right-hand corner find the window labeled "Databases" and check the box next to "ldap.umn.edu". Uncheck the rest of the boxes. This will make sure that your e-mail client only uses the University of Minnesota's directory service.

6) To perform a lookup in the U of MN directory service, type part or all of a name into the "Query" field and hit start. You can use the arrows to find their e-mail address. You can also single click on their name once you find it, and click the "To" button below to start a new e-mail addressed to them.

1) To open the Address Book, first go to "Tools" and then select "Address Book"

2) To Add a new Address Book entry, click on the icon that is titled "New"
3) Fill in a short, one-word phrase that you can use to remember someone in your addressbook for the "Nickname" field. Enter their full name in the "Full Name: " field, and then their First and Last name in the respective fields below that. Their actual e-mail address goes in the field labeled:"This nickname will expact to the following addresses". You can add other information to this person's entry by clicking on the tabs labeled

4) Making an E-mail List is almost exactly the same as making an individual nickname entry, except that you should check the box next to "Recipient List" in the upper right-hand corner of the Address Book window.
