Departmental and Organizational E-mail Accounts

OIT will create e-mail accounts for official University organizations at any level, such as: departments, divisions, laboratories, offices, committees and research projects. These accounts are to be used only for official organization business and should be monitored and read on a regular basis.

Departments may also sponsor an e-mail account for a University-affiliated individual, as long as that individual provides a service or function that directly impacts students, faculty, or staff. If you have questions about the definition of an official appointment, please seek the advice of the Human Resources consultant in your department.

Sponsored and short-term wireless network access is available for conferences and guests.

Application forms are on-line for both types of accounts. To access the forms use your Internet ID and password.

  • Department accounts: requests should come from the organization's leader (director, supervisor, administrator, etc). Currently there are no charges associated with e-mail accounts for U of M organizations. Access the form.
  • Sponsored accounts: before making this request, obtain approval from the department head or administrator. There is a one time set up fee and a monthly fee associated with these accounts. Access the form.
