SeaMonkey (Windows) E-mail Setup Guide

SeaMonkey is an Internet communications suite that is freely downloadable from www.seamonkey-project.org. Also included is a Web browser, page editor, and an IRC client. Be sure to periodically check the SeaMonkey download site for updates to keep up to date with the latest security and bug fixes.

If you want only the e-mail component instead of the entire suite, you may want to download Thunderbird from www.mozilla.com. Thunderbird automatically checks for its updates and offers to download and install them for you.

  1. Start SeaMonkey. From the Windows menu choose Mail & Newsgroups.
If the Account Wizard opens and asks you to choose the type of new account to set up, click Cancel and then Exit to close the wizard.
  2. From the Edit menu choose Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings.
  3. Click Add Account...
  4. Select Email account, then click Next.
  5. Enter your name into the box labeled "Your Name". This is the name your recipients will see in the "From" field of your sent messages.
Enter your e-mail address in the box labeled "Email Address".
    Click Next.
  6. Select IMAP.
For "Incoming Server", enter your Internet ID followed by .email.umn.edu (for example, if your Internet ID were "user1234", you would enter "user1234.email.umn.edu" here).
For "Outgoing Server", enter smtp.umn.edu and click Next
  7. Enter your Internet ID for both "Incoming User Name" and "Outgoing User Name".
    Click Next.
  8. For "Account Name", enter a descriptive name for this e-mail account. In this example, we used "UofM Email".
