SyncML client for iPhone will not work with UMCal Calendars Jul. 10, 2008
Synthesis, the company that makes the SyncML client for UMCal, has announced that due to limitations with the Apple software development kit (SDK) the SyncML client they are producing will only work to synchronize contacts. Calendar synchronization will not be available at this time. WebMail Pro, 3.0 decommissioning reminder Jul. 2, 2008
The WebMail Pro and WebMail 3.0 decommission schedule has been extended to August 4, 2008. These systems were initially set to be decommissioned July 1.

FileNET decommissioning scheduled Jun. 12, 2008
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) plans to decommission the FileNET Web Content Management (WCM) application on Dec. 31. Units that are currently utilizing FileNET will either need to convert their existing sites to UMContent, which is the replacement application for FileNET, or move to a non-centrally supported solution.

Software license program office in new location May. 22, 2008
OIT's software license program office has moved from its Shepherd Labs location to its new location at 2218 University Ave. SE. Software duplication (fee involved) and borrowed software or media previously handled at Shepherd Labs now is handled at the new location.
Novell decommissioning reminder May. 22, 2008
Novell Netware users are reminded that OIT no longer will provide technical support for Novell systems after Monday, Dec. 1. Since central Active Directory has been deployed at the University, Novell Netware server usage has dropped sharply. Departments wishing to continue using Novell systems should find alternate service hosting. OIT is committed to smooth departmental migration to central Active Directory, offering guides, training, and assistance throughout the process. Questions should be directed to umnad@umn.edu. SafeAssign to replace Turnitin May. 22, 2008
Because of increased concern over plagiarism in the digital age, the University has been offering instructors a Web-based plagiarism detection tool called Turnitin. After an extensive review of several Web-based detection services and an analysis of our current usage, the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost and the Office of Information Technology (OIT) have chosen to not renew the University's license with Turnitin and will instead offer the plagiarism detection service SafeAssign.

Anti-phishing software deployed May. 22, 2008
After several weeks of evaluation, OIT's Internet Services has deployed more aggressive anti-phishing technology on the central mail servers used for all inbound e-mail. The software currently is detecting more than 1,000 additional phishing messages daily.
